Opening pathways through technology

Open Pathway Collective is a not-for-profit technology organisation dedicated to unlocking opportunities for displaced people. We build open-source software that connects refugees with the organisations that can support them.

Why now?

117.8 million people were forcibly displaced at the end of 2025. 28.5 million of them are refugees under UNHCR's mandate.

A crisis this large and this dispersed often leaves individuals and organisations feeling powerless to help. Services remain fragmented and data stays in silos. Providers deliver overlapping services without coordinating, so there is waste in some places and gaps in others. Every organisation builds its own tools, which drives up the cost of each outcome.

There is no shared infrastructure that lets organisations coordinate around a refugee's qualifications, skills, experience and aspirations. That is what we build.

A software platform that makes existing services more effective

The Global Refugee Network is our flagship platform. Refugees keep one profile, and employment, training, migration and settlement services can all work from it. Each side can find the other.

A GRN match explanation. It summarises why a candidate suits a finance assistant role and links each point to the work history it came from.
Release 2.7.0 lets a service provider ask why a candidate was matched. Each reason links back to the candidate's own work history. Read the release notes

For refugees

Register once
Anyone can create a profile of their skills, qualifications, experience and goals, wherever they are and whatever their visa status.
Choose who sees you
Organisations see an anonymised profile. The full profile is only shared when the refugee approves the request, and every decision leaves an audit trail.
How registration works

For service providers

Find candidates
Search anonymised profiles across the network. AI matching ranks candidates and explains why each one fits.
Be seen
List your employment, training, migration or settlement services so refugees on the network can find them. We help you connect, even if you have no engineers of your own.

About the Global Refugee NetworkQuestions and answers

Derar Alkhateeb

This initiative brings back hope for a better future, and I am grateful for the chance to help others change their lives through their own skills.

Derar Alkhateeb, director. Originally from Syria, Derar was the first skilled refugee to gain international employment through Talent Beyond Boundaries.

I view OPC as a practical opportunity for refugees globally at a time when traditional solutions are diminishing rapidly, and I fully believe in the team's mission.

Projects

We take on work that scales existing solutions or lowers the cost of delivering them, helps refugees show their verified skills, and helps organisations work together.

Have a problem that shared, open technology could solve for displaced people? Tell us about it.

Built in the open

The codebase has supported skilled refugee migration for ten years, and it runs in production today. It is open source, so the sector shares the cost of maintenance and security, and more funding goes to direct support.

We look after the Talent Catalog repository on GitHub and write most of its code. Volunteers and Pro Bono Fellows work alongside us.
